It was a successful European venture for all Spanish teams involved in Europa League action as Valencia, Sevilla, Athletic and Villarreal all made it into the draw for the last 16, due to take place on Friday.
Villarreal and Athletic overcame tough opposition in the shape of Napoli and Marseille respectively. Valencia cruised past Rapid Wien, winning 10-0 on aggregate, while Sevilla were defeated on the night by Norwegian side Molde, though a 3-0 first leg lead was enough for them to get through to the next round.
In what is arguably the strongest final 16 the competition has seen, it will take a lot for teams to secure the trophy won by Sevilla in the past two seasons.
The games for the next round will take place on the 10th and 17th of March, and the teams that could draw one of the four Spanish sides are:
Anderlecht, Basel, Borussia Dortmund, Braga, Fenerbahçe, Lazio, Leverkusen, Liverpool, Manchester United, Shakhtar, Sparta Prague, Tottenham.
Of course, we have now reached the stage of the Europa League where there are no restrictions on teams from the same country playing one another, so it is very possible that we could see the Spanish sides all drawn against each other.
