Premier League duo to battle it out for Morata signing
Arsenal are ready to step up their chase for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata despite Chelsea interest, according to the Evening Standard.
Real Madrid activated their buy-back clause on the Spanish forward towards the end of June, but don’t seem to have any intentions of keeping him, despite only having one other out and out forward in the shape of Karim Benzema.
Since signing him back for a fee of around £25million, rumours about his next destination have been rife, with four different Premier League clubs linked with signing the 23-year-old.
Real are hoping to get more than double of what they paid Juventus to bring Morata back, with the Evening Standard saying a fee of £57million will be required, a figure which Arsenal aren’t willing to pay.
Despite this, Arsenal believe they can bring the figure down and that they can get the player to join the club, and are willing to make him their highest-paid player (via Daily Mirror).
Morata scored seven times in 34 Serie A appearances for Juventus last season, and scored 27 times in all competitions in his two years in Turin.
The forward was also Spain’s top scorer at Euro 2016, scoring three times before they crashed out to Italy at the round of 16 stage.
