Barcelona set to sign forward Kevin Gameiro
Barcelona are set to confirm their fifth signing of the summer in the coming days after they reportedly agreed a deal with Sevilla for Kevin Gameiro.
The news comes via SPORT, who claim that a deal had been done on Sunday afternoon, with Gameiro missing Los Nervionenses’ friendly against SV Sandhausen.
Gameiro played a big part in Sevilla’s fifth Europa League trophy success, scoring the equaliser in the final against Liverpool. His 16 goals in La Liga also helped Sevilla secure a top seven finish.
The 29-year-old was a surprise omission from Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2016 squad, with Karim Benzema’s absence from the squad almost guaranteeing him a place.
It was thought that Gameiro would be joining another La Liga side, Atletico Madrid, with Gianluca di Marzio (via GFFN) suggesting that a deal worth an initial €25million was close to completion. However, it appears the forward is now left with a choice of the two clubs.
Should the Frenchman join Barcelona, he will provide much needed backup for Luis Suarez, with Munir currently the Catalan club’s only other forward option.
