Barcelona give update on Lionel Messi injury
Barcelona have confirmed via their official website that Lionel Messi is continuing to struggle with a hamstring problem, and say that his availability for the coming games against Alaves, Celtic and Leganes will depend on his recovery.
Messi has played the full 90 minutes in every game for Barcelona so far this season, scoring three times, two of which came in the Catalan side’s emphatic 6-2 victory against Real Betis on the opening day.
As a result of the injury concerns, Messi will undergo lighter training sessions by recommendations from doctors, with his progress being closely monitored by the club as they look to keep their star man fit for the next game.
Messi was also called up to the Argentina national team for their World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Venezuela, and despite the 29-year-old playing the full 90 and scoring the winner against the former, there was still some discomfort there.
