Contract length reduced on Simeone’s Atleti contract
According to a recent report in AS, Atleti manager Diego Simeone will see his contract length reduced by two years after gearing up to sign a new deal with Los Rojiblancos.
Simeone was coy about his future following a second Champions League final defeat in three seasons – both against fierce rivals Real Madrid – but AS claim that the club were only willing to part ways with the Argentine manager if the release clause in his contract was met.
A number of clubs were linked with Simeone in the summer (Chelsea, PSG and Inter to name a few), but those clubs all opted for different managers.
Atleti club president Enrique Cerezo also stated a few days ago that the contract will be reduced by one year, not two. However, it appears that is no longer the case.
The new contract will see him continue as one of the highest-paid managers in La Liga, although it now leaves the club at risk of losing the 46-year-old for free in two seasons’ time.
