Sergio Busquets to sign new long-term Barcelona deal
Barcelona have announced that midfielder Sergio Busquets will sign a new deal this Thursday.
The new contract will see Busquets tied down to the club until the end of the 2020/21 season, but should he reach a certain number of appearances, there is the possibility of a two-year extension to the new deal.
The tough tacking midfielder broke into the Barcelona first team in 2008 after graduating from the club’s famous La Masia academy, and quickly became a mainstay in then-manager Pep Guardiola’s team.
Since his La Liga debut against Racing Santander, the 28-year-old has played 390 times for the club, scoring just six times. Since his first season in the Barcelona first-team, Busquets has averaged 48 appearances a season
He’s also won an incredible number of trophies with the club, 24 in total, and was key to Barcelona sextuple haul in 2009.
With the new contract comes an increased buyout clause, with clubs now having to fork out at least €200million in order to force Barcelona’s hand.
