Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi is flattered at reported linking him with a January move to Chelsea, say L’Equipe.
After leaving French side SC Amiens for Blackburn in 2009, Nzonzi spent three years in the Premier League with Rovers before leaving to join Stoke in 2012.
Impressing at the Britannia, Sevilla swooped in for the former France U21 international in a £7m deal after winning the Europa League for a second-straight year and they made it a hat-trick in 2015/16 with Nzonzi being a key player in their midfield.
Chelsea are one of many clubs said to be interested in the 27-year-old defensive midfielder this summer, but Nzonzi tells L’Equipe he’s focussing on life at Sevilla despite admitting it’s good to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
“It’s nice, it’s good. But I always say that this type of club is interested in other players too.
“I am not the only one. I know that big clubs are interested in many players.
“I’m focusing on what I do at Sevilla. Until there is something concrete, we must remain professional.
“Some clubs were interested [in the close-season] but I feel good at Sevilla.
“I enjoy the game, the football, I like the way Sevilla play, I feel good in the city, with the fans and the club and I’m enjoying myself.”
Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side is reliant on combative and robust holding midfielders in front of the back three and N’Golo Kante has been exactly that for the Blues, but maybe Nzonzi would be a great complement to him.
