Barcelona Approached by Premier League Clubs For Vidal
Barcelona’s misfit winger-turned-defender Aleix Vidal is reported to be a target for both Southampton and Swansea as the two Premier League sides look to boost their squad qualities for completely different reasons; Southampton to fight for European qualification and Swansea to prevent relegation.
The 27-year old has found game time at the Nou Camp hard to come by under Luis Enrique, despite featuring more of late. He has played just once in La Liga this season, a 2-1 defeat at home to Alaves and once in the Champions League, a 4-0 win against Borussia Monchengladbach.
According to Sport, Vidal has been on the search for a new club since November as it became apparent that his situation in Catalonia may not improve.
Plenty of offers have come through the door for the Spaniard, however none have been strong enough to persuade Vidal to leave the reigning champions of Spain.
Southampton will look to bring Vidal into the club to rival Cedric at right-back for a starting position or even play him back in his favored position of right-wing as goals have been hard to come by for the Saints this season.
Swansea, however will require Vidal for a completely different reason: defense. The Welsh side look set for relegation after poor performances this season; the major problem being a lack of quality in defense, conceding a league high 41 goals in 18 games this season.
Vidal originally had hoped for a loan move to another top side in Europe, but any chances were extinguished when play time in the Copa del Rey and Champions League emerged.
Barca will want to regather the £14m they dug out for Vidal when they bought him from Sevilla but could accept offers of £10m.
Ligue 1 side Marseille and Serie A giants Milan are thought to be interested as well in the Spaniard.
Who would need Vidal more?
Southampton
Southampton’s defense has been one of the best in the Premier League but they are one of the lowest scorers in the division.
Swansea
Swansea have been one of the poorest sides in the Premier League and sit firmly in the relegation zone. The worst defensive side in the division means that they need improvement at the back quickly.
