Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid battled past a spirited Osasuna with a gutsy 3-1 victory at the El Sadar Stadium on Saturday.

With Barcelona dispatching Deportivo Alaves 6-0 earlier in the day, a win for Madrid would see them regain top spot in La Liga.

In a cracking game, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Zidane’s side, rifling a low finish past Osasuna keeper Salvatore Sirigu before the home team equalised before half-time courtesy of Sergio Leon’s chip.

However, after the break, Madrid showed their class by grinding out the victory through Isco’s neat finish in the 62nd minute before Lucas Vasquez wrapped up the victory for the Galacticos with a cool finish in injury time.

The victory takes Real Madrid back to the top of La Liga by one point and with two games in hand on second-placed Barcelona.

Real Madrid were not at their best in the match with goalkeeper Keylor Navas making a series of superb saves throughout the match, including an excellent stop to deny Emmanuel Riviere just before half time.

However, the match was overshadowed by a horror injury for Osasuna player Tano who broke his leg following a challenge from Isco.
