Simeone believes Costa is the main man at Atletico Madrid
According to FourFourTwo, Diego Simeone believes that Diego Costa is the most important player at Atletico Madrid in recent years.
Atletico manager Simeone doesn’t believe that there is a single player that has been so important to Madrid in recent years than Costa. Costa returned to Atletico Madrid when he left Chelsea back in September 2017, but has only become eligible to play this month.
Costa returned to action for Atletico on Saturday when he scored and was sent off in their 2-0 win over Getafe. The Spanish international then went on to provide an assist for Yannick Carrasco as Atletico strolled past Lleida 3-0 on Tuesday to secure a thumping 7-0 win on aggregate in the Copa del Rey.
This now means that Costa has been involved in three goals in three games since returning to the side, having found the net twice. Costa helped Atletico to La Liga victory and the first of two Champions League finals in three seasons in 2013/14.
Following the cup tie, Simeone was quick to praise the striker.
I have no doubt that Costa was the most important player that has played for Atletico in recent years.
Vitolo grabbed a late third for Atletico after Kevin Gameiro had doubled their lead, with his volley being the first for the club.
He had a very good game and is integrating little by little to the needs of the team. He looks up, controls well, turns well, has a good transition to attack from the outside or inside, and he will have to continue taking advantage of the minutes on the pitch when the team needs him.
