Real Betis sign Barcelona defender on loan
Real Betis, amid the potential transfer of Leandro Damiao, have completed the loan signing of Barcelona’s right-back, Martin Montoya, who had previously spent the season at Inter Milan.
Roberto Mancini clearly did not rate the Spanish defender, as he failed to make an impression at the Italian giants, playing just three matches.
Although the Andalusian side are sitting in 15th place – a position they would definitely take at the end of the season – they have not won a match in a dozen fixtures, and face Gary Neville’s Valencia at home on Sunday.
Montoya, at the age of 24, is now at a stage of his career where he simply needs to play more matches, and although Real Betis marks a step-down in quality, playing first-team football is what he wants.
Having been rumoured with sides like Liverpool, there is definite potential, but for now, until the rest of the season, there should only be one thing on Montoya’s agenda: helping Real Betis stay in La Liga.
