Fernando Torres stable after head injury
Spanish side Atletico Madrid have said that striker Fernando Torres is ‘stable, conscious and lucid’ in hospital after suffering a serious head injury in Atletico’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo at the Estadio Riazor
The 32-year-old, who has had spells with Liverpool and Chelsea, fell heavily in an aerial challenge with Alex Bergantinos in the 85th minute.
The forward will have more tests Friday afternoon, however, the club have confirmed that the Spanish international’s scans showed ‘no traumatic alterations or injuries.’
Players from both Deportivo and Atletico rushed over to the 31-year-old and called from medical attention.
Footballers and former team-mates of the striker sent their wishes for the forward, with everyone involved in the game wishing him a speedy recovery. The Spanish international later updated his fans on his injury on his Twitter page, saying, “Many thanks to all for worry for me and for your messages of encouragement. Has been only a scare. I hope to return very soon!”
