Atletico Madrid set to increase Jan Oblak’s release clause
Atletico Madrid want to increase the release clause of goalkeeper Jan Oblak, chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has confirmed.
The 25-year-old’s current contract runs until 2021 and includes a reported 100 million euros buyout clause.
Both Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with the Slovenian International but Atletico Madrid are attempting to stall these advancements.
Gil Marin told Spanish programme Cadena COPE:
We’re going to try to increase Oblak’s clause, but what we have to do is trust him.
We know he wants to stay and we want him to stay.
Oblak has become one of the world’s leading keepers since joining Atleti from Benfica in 2014.
Oblak was able to keep a clean sheet as Diego Simeone’s side won the Europa League final 3-0 against Marseille.
Oblak will have the final decision if his release clause is triggered and will also have the final say in contract negotiations with Atletico. Either way Oblak’s future is in his own hands.
